with Taryn Spires
$275
This class invites adults and college students of all backgrounds to dive into the work of African American playwrights whose voices have shaped the American theatre. From classics to contemporary works, we will study the artistry, themes, and cultural impact of writers who have used the stage to tell powerful stories of identity, resilience, justice, and joy.
Through guided discussions, writing prompts, and creative exercises, students will:
✨ Explore the legacy and influence of African American playwrights
✨ Examine what it means to write authentically for diversity and representation
✨ Develop their own voices as playwrights, inspired by the artists who came before
✨ Engage in conversations about inclusivity, storytelling, and cultural responsibility in theatre
This course is not just about learning history—it’s about sparking creativity and cultivating empathy. Open to all, whether you are an aspiring playwright, a performer, or someone who loves theatre, this class provides a space to honor diverse perspectives and discover how our stories can make lasting change.
